LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Earlier this week, Governor Andy Beshear, alongside the secretary of the Public Safety Cabinet of Kentucky awarded $750,000 in grant funding to several organizations.

The organizations support victims of crime in rebuilding and taking back their lives.

“We serve over 7500 children each year,” said Caroline Ruschell, the Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Kentucky.

The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Kentucky, receiving more than $270,000 of funding from the state.

The money, part of the American Rescue Plan Act.

“The award that we received will actually have an impact all across the state. We did a roll up application, and applied as the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Kentucky on behalf of all of our 15 Children’s Advocacy Center members,” said Ruschell.

The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Kentucky mainly respond to reports of abuse.

“We care about safety, the child being safe, we care about justice, if there was a crime, sometimes there’s not, and if there, there wasn’t a good interview at a Children’s Advocacy Center is one of the best ways to get to the bottom of that. But we care about justice when it’s needed, and then we care about healing that they go on to heal from their abuse,” she also added.

The center says the money will go toward funding equipment needed at various locations.

“This particular grant was a one time funding and it has has to be used for one time purposes, such as the record equipment, that helps us record forensic interviews, that kind of thing, which is also a vital piece of it,” added Ruschell.
