A Mississippi man was killed in a hail of bullets while sitting in a car outside a small-town convenience store.

On Thursday, May 2, at approximately 8 p.m., the Centreville Police Department received multiple calls reporting shots fired at the Chevron store at 1290 Miss. Highway 24 East in Centreville.

CPD officers immediately responded and found one male victim had been shot multiple times while sitting in a white BMW car.

Chief Grayson has identified the victim as Jerome G. Young, a 40-year-old black male whose address has been listed as 6249 Roxanne Way in Biloxi.

Witnesses at the scene reported a four-door Audi with multiple passengers drove up behind the parked BMW and opened fire on Young’s car. Numerous bullets hit the B-Kwik building, shattering glass in the storefront. No one else was injured in the shooting incident.

Three days following this incident, on Saturday, May 6, the CPD received multiple calls reporting multiple gunshots near Cosby and Highland Streets, which is inside the city limits of Centreville.

Witnesses in this area reported a white BMW and a red Cadillac Escalade as vehicles of interest.

Immediately after the shooting, the Cadillac Escalade proceeded to Miss. Highway 24 where it struck a small passenger car which ended up in a ditch on the roadside.

Chief LaShonda Grayson said that witnesses reported several males, some wearing ski masks, fled the wrecked Escalade carrying large guns.

This Escalade has been identified as the same vehicle that was firing shots at Cosby and Highland Streets.

“Anyone who has any information, please contact the CPD at 601-645-5917 or Crime Stoppers. You do not have to give your name,” Grayson said.

Young’s BMW has been taken to Brookhaven for processing for possible evidence and clues.
