Standout freshman first baseman Henry Ford was notably absent from No. 10 Virginia’s lineup in the Hoos’ 18-5 run-rule rout of George Washington on Wednesday.

But afterward, Cavaliers coach Brian O’Connor said the boot on Ford’s foot was precautionary. According to O’Connor, Ford tweaked his ankle in practice this past Sunday.

“He’s getting better every day and I fully anticipate him playing Friday night,” O’Connor said.

UVa has only six regular-season contests remaining with N.C. State due to visit Charlottesville this weekend for a series and rival Virginia Tech due for a trip to Disharoon Park the following week before the ACC tournament in Charlotte, which begins May 21.

This season, Ford has been one of the best first-year players not only in the ACC, but nationally, too.
