It's Rugged and Distinguished

Anyone who follows the industry knows there's a war looming in Detroit -- a pick-up war -- and GMC just pulled out their version of a laser-guided Tomahawk with the 2019 GMC Sierra. For the fourth generation of the General's flagship pick-up, we're seeing styling that's distinct from its Chevy cousin, apps that monitor your trailer, a swiss-army-knife of a tailgate, and a carbon fiber bed. Mark Reuss, the director of global product planning at GM, says he recognizes that GMC customers pay more for their truck and want something that's distinguished from all the others.
But if you love your Silverado, as many of us do, you won't be disappointed to hear that the new Sierra will continue to share updated versions of the 6.2 L and 5.3 L plants GM fans have come to love, and should you want to reach for the green pump, they'll get the 3L Duramax too. The Sierra will also share the same chassis and wheel-base as its bow-tie relative -- and that's a good thing! GM has long been the class leader in ride quality. In Denali trim, GM says the Sierra is getting an updated Adaptive Ride Control that analyzes the road surfaces and makes adjustments faster and more precisely than the system introduced in 2015. The big news is, however, that the new Sierra that features carbon fiber inserts on the sides of the box and that the bed is a revised alloy steel that GM says is stronger and lighter than the competition. It also has the most advanced tailgate ever featured on a pickup truck that GM says has been three years in the making. “In 116 years of making GMC pickup trucks, our industry-first carbon-fiber box is the toughest and most durable pickup box we have ever made,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global GMC. And then there's the tech. Want a heads-up display? Check. Wireless phone charging? Check. Need help seeing what's around you? It's got 360-degree cameras for that. Need to tow a lot? How about an app that comes with pre-departure checklists, trailer tire pressure monitoring, trailer maintenance reminders, and a theft detection system that lets you know if your trailer has been unhitched without your permission? Year-to-date, inch-for-inch, pound-for-pound, GM says there's never been a truck this luxurious, this smart, this efficient, and we're with them. What are your thoughts? Do you love your Sierra?
