PUTNEY — Sundog Poetry and Green Writers Press present an evening of poetry featuring Julia C. Alter, winner of the 2023 Sundog Poetry Book Award for "Some Dark Familiar," and special guests Pablo Medina, Rage Hezekiah and Ben Aleshire.

The event is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill, Putney. There is a $10 suggested donation.

“Good poetry manages to hold space for our most contradictory selves. And in this, we learn a little how to live. In Julia C. Alter’s vivid and surprising debut collection, Some Dark Familiar, the essential exploration of self is traversed with dexterity and wit. ‘Though some idea of me is a moth, / another idea of me is a mother’ she writes. I’m refreshed by the fierce anti-sentimentality. It is her dervish vision that holds us, reckoning with painful truths about love and relation. There is resilience and curiosity at every luscious and lyrical turn of this wonderful book.”

This event is free and open to the public. The suggested donation is a benefit to support the arts in southern Vermont.
