The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Denver Zoo are nominated. Vote for your favorite now!

USA Today’s 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards 2020 wants to know your favorite zoo in North America. And two Colorado zoos made the list—the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs and the Denver Zoo both secured nominations on the list. The annual contest is now open and taking votes.

A panel of travel experts nominated their favorite 20 North American Association of Zoos & Aquariums accredited zoos. These are all facilities that take top-notch care of their animals and "excel in the fields of animal care and enrichment, while also facilitating meaningful interactions between animals and human visitors."

People can vote for their favorite zoo once a day until Monday, April 13, at noon (ET). The top 10 zoos will be announced on Friday, April 24.

Updates are posted regularly. At the time of this writing, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo sits at No. 5 on the leaderboard while the Denver Zoo is at No. 12. You can check out all the zoos and see the daily leaderboard change here.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the treasures of Colorado Springs, sitting at 6,800 feet above sea level. One of the favorite destinations of Colorado locals and visitors from all over, this zoo got its start in 1926. It was once the home for a private collection of exotic animals, but it's now is home to close to 1,000 animals, with more than 200 species residing in this picturesque setting. Zoo patrons can feed giraffes, ride the carousel or Sky Ride, or enjoy the art exhibits that are intertwined in some of the animal exhibits.

Denver Zoo is a beloved part of the city and takes up 80 acres in the heart of City Park. Indoor and outdoor exhibits, as well as special events and educational opportunities, make this a favorite destination for so many who come to Denver. This zoo began with just one black bear and was the first zoo in the country to use an open-air naturalistic enclosure (Bear Mountain) instead of caged or barred-in exhibits. The zoo works hard to provide amazing care to the animals and be a green zoo.

Which of these two Colorado zoos is your favorite? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to vote every day!
