If you have tickets, you can get a refund or hold on to them until next year.

Since 1922, cowboys have faced down some of the nation's rankest bucking stock in the Greeley Stampede arena, but this year, both man and beast are up against an opponent that beat them to the buzzer.

Due to coronavirus and COVID-19 concerns, the 2020 Greeley Stampede, scheduled to run from June 24 through July 5, is postponed, which basically means that it won't happen any time this year.

"In these unprecedented times, it is with heavy hearts that we will be postponing the 99th Annual Greeley Stampede that was scheduled for June 24-July 5, 2020. The decision has been made in response to the direction from health officials and the effect COVID-19 is having on our community. As difficult as it is to make the decision to postpone the event, it is with the best intentions as we seek to protect the health and safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff," says the Greeley Stampede in a message on its website.

This year's event was to host a wide range of activities, from rodeos to demolition derbies, as well as concerts. The event generally draws a quarter-million people through its two-week run, all who also gather for fair-style food (I'm going to miss those turkey legs, for sure), events, and the ever-popular carnival.

According to the Stampede website, those who have bought tickets already can either get a refund or a credit for the 2021 event.

"Information on how to claim a refund or credit will be available soon. We will post updates and contact ticket holders on the refund process when available. Please send questions to [email protected]," the website suggests.

No doubt everyone who loves to go to the Stampede is disappointed, as is the organization itself. But, true to Western spirit and heritage, we can all pull together to get back on track and make next year's event the biggest yet.

"We cannot thank our community, sponsors, and supporters enough for their understanding and cooperation. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt everywhere and only together will we see this through," says the Stampede.

Did you have tickets already for the Stampede? How do you feel about the cancelation? Let us know in the comments.
