From basic tent sites to full-service RV pads, Maryland has campgrounds fit for your next camping trip.
As states begin to reopen, many families are excited about taking a vacation this summer. But with the pandemic still in the background, some are hesitant to stay in hotels. Travel experts are predicting many of the top vacation spots this year will be national parks. While many of the national park campgrounds remain closed in Maryland, there are plenty of state parks and private campgrounds that are open for the season.
Here are five campgrounds around the state open for business this summer:
Frontier Town

Frontier Town is located in Berlin, Maryland, just close enough to the beach to make a trip to Ocean City. The campground accommodates both RVs and tents and also has RVs and cabins for rent. The one-stop-shop campus has western-themed shops and restaurants, a water park, arcade, western town, and mini-golf. Frontier Town's entertainment and amusement facilities are open with safety restrictions; check the website for updates before you book.
Jellystone Park
Located up in western Maryland, Jellystone Park is a Yogi Bear-themed campground with a water park, mini-golf, pony rides, and other outdoor activities. Jellystone offers tent and RV sites, cabins, and luxury guesthouses All of the activities and facilities are open with social distancing and safety restrictions. Make your stay extra special by booking a private visit to your campsite or room from Yogi Bear or Boo-boo.
Patapsco Valley State Park
If you don’t want to travel far, Patapsco Valley State Park offers camping and history right outside the city. The park has a 300-foot suspension bridge, amazing trails, and picturesque scenery, and is also home to the Thomas Viaduct, a beautiful stone-arched railroad bridge. The Hollifield campground accommodates tents, trailers, and RVs and is available by reservation only This campground is popular and fills up quickly, so be sure to book ahead!
Assateague Island National Seashore

For something a little more rugged and close to nature, book a campsite at Assateague Island. The island is home to the famous Chincoteague horses, and camping is only allowed on the Maryland side of the island. There are two separate camping areas—one operated by the National Park Service and the other by the state of Maryland. Both campgrounds accommodate tents and RV camping. Limited backcountry camping is available with a permit. Rates start at $16 per night.
Little Bennett Campground
Located in Clarksburg, Little Bennett Campground is the only campground in Montgomery County. It has 63 tent sites, three cabins, three yurts, and 22 RV sites. The suburban campground has a pedal cart track, jumping pillow, laser tag, gem mining, and a camp store. If you’re new to camping, you can take advantage of the park’s camper-ready sites that include a tent, camping chairs, propane tank, and a lantern.
