BallotTrax system has rolled out statewide.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold issued a statement Monday announcing that, for the first time, all voters in Colorado will be able to track the status of their individual mail-in ballots. This will be in effect for the 2020 election.

This is the very first time that all 64 counties in the state have access to ballot tracking through the BallotTrax system. Voters in counties that did not previously have the service will be notified that they have been enrolled if they provided an email at the time of voter registration. Voters can opt-out of BallotTrax at any point; those already enrolled will not need to re-enroll.

Anyone registered to vote in Colorado can sign up any time at coloradoballottrax.net. Tracking preferences can be updated at ballottrace.org/home. 

“I’m happy to announce that for the first time, every Colorado voter will have access to ballot tracking, to be able to see when ballots are sent to when they are processed,” said Secretary Griswold.  “This new program is one of the many ways that Colorado continually innovates to ensure our elections are the best in the nation.”

Before the announcement, only 12 counties in Colorado were using the BallotTrax tracking and messaging system. The implementation of this system statewide offers voters a sense of security and reassurance that their ballot has made it to the right place. October 26, 2020, is the deadline to register to vote and still receive a ballot in the mail. Anyone registered after that day will need to vote in person, either at early voting, or on Election Day.

Colorado voters can register online or complete a paper registration and can register up until 7 p.m. on the day of an election. More information on registration and voting procedures can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.
