Come out and celebrate the history and culture of people of African descent at the Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival!
For the 29th year, Annapolis will host the Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival, an annual event named after Kunta Kinte, one of the slaves brought to Annapolis in the 1760s. From music to workshops, to readings and food, the festival is a huge celebration of African culture and heritage.

The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival will be host to multiple vendors booths dealing with arts and crafts, education and the community, and food! And visitors will be able to enjoy live entertainment on two different stages throughout the day.
On the Main Casino-Hotel Stage, the opening ceremony will feature an ancestral remembrance and libation ceremony, as well as African music, praise dancers, gospel singers, and an African dance company. The Community Stage will be holding a Caribbean Carnival dance workshop, an African singing workshop, an author reading with Toni Mariani, and a presentation on Brewer Hill by Elinor Thompson. In Alex Haley's book, Roots, he details his ancestor Kunta Kinte's experiences and determination to never lose connection with his African heritage. It is that spirit of determination that mixes so well with the festival's dedication to the "perseverance, education, and cultural heritage of Africans, African Americans, and Caribbean people of African descent" that led to organizers naming the festival after Kunta Kinte back in 1987, according to the website.
