Some bars have darts. Others have axes.
Downtown Art Gallery & Axe Room and Bad Axe Throwing are two venues where you can really get into the "swing" of things. Both spots have made names for themselves by offering patrons the chance to switch out their ordinary darts for axes.
Axe throwing is a growing trend no one was expecting, and it's as popular as bowling and darts, but offers a bit more risk. Patrons are placed in large rooms inside metal cages that protect onlookers from axes and hatchets soaring toward large wooden targets.
If you're looking to have a bachelor or bachelorette party, a birthday party, an office team building event, or just a new excuse to hang out with your friends and/or coworkers after work, then Downtown Art Gallery & Axe Room (DAGAR) is the place to be.
DAGAR first opened on June 16, 2017, and is taking reservations of up to six to seven people. They're looking to expand and add more lanes by mid-July, so you can stay updated by checking out their website. After the grand opening in July, walk-ins will be welcome, too. The 5,600-square-foot venue is located in Lower Downtown at 2000 Lawrence Street in Denver.
Bad Axe Throwing is the other venue, which will be opening its third U.S. location in Denver in August of this year. Mario Zelaya, founder and owner, is hoping that the 2,500-square-foot space will quickly become a spot for folks interested in getting "outside their comfort zone, have a beer and throw some axes with people who you normally wouldn't talk to at work." A tentative opening for the second week of August has been set for Bad Axe, but Zelaya is hoping to open even sooner.
Both DAGAR and Bad Axe have instructors that supervise the throws and make sure everyone involved is safe and is practicing safe axe handling. Customers must sign a wavier before participating.
