"Lady of the Lake" is being adapted into a limited series. 

Laura Lippman has already achieved massive success, as a New York Times best-selling novelist whose "work has been awarded the Edgar ®, the Anthony, the Agatha, the Shamus, the Nero Wolfe, Gumshoe and Barry awards," according to the author's bio. But her newest news "is fantastic," Lippman told The Baltimore Sun. "I couldn't feel luckier right now." 

The Baltimore author's Lady in the Lake has been picked up by Apple TV+ as a limited series.

"What's significant," Lippman clarified, "is that this is a series order, not a pilot—and the stars for the two main roles are perfect. By any measure, this is about as good as it gets."

Deadline reported that Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong'o will star, and the "series will be directed by Honey Boy director Alma Har’el, who co-created and will co-write with Colony and The Man in the High Castle writer Dre Ryan," with Har’el writing the pilot episode. 

This adaptation is the first for the small screen. Of Lippman's 25 novels, which she began writing while working as a full-time journalist (12 years of which she spent at The Baltimore Sun), only one has been adapted. That was Every Secret Thing, which was made into a movie starring Diane Lane in 2014.

This current project "has been in the works for 18 months," Lippman told The Baltimore Sun, and she "will be an executive producer of the series. No production schedule has been set."

We have a lot of Lippman to look forward to—not only is her series in pre-production but her 26th book, Dream Girl, will be published June 22.
