If you were interested in attending Burning Man, don't be disappointed that it's canceled—it's going virtual!

Held every summer since 1986, the Burning Man festival usually takes place in Black Rock City, in Nevada. A unique event of art and self-expression, it has always appealed to thousands of free spirits across the country who flock to the desert looking for three days of freedom and hippie-like fun.

Unfortunately, it won't happen in quite the same way this year.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers have decided to venture into another outlet to make this experience happen—the internet!

In a statement, organizers said they have decided they will make the event virtual! 

“We’re not sure how it’s going to come out,” the announcement said. “It will likely be messy and awkward with mistakes. It will also likely be engaging, connective, and fun.” 

Sounds like it'll be something to check out! Those who already purchased tickets should receive refunds, although organizers are insisting they “consider donating all or a portion of your ticket value, and/or making a tax-deductible donation to Burning Man Project.”

“Yes, we are heartbroken," the statement continued. "We know you are too. In 2020 we need human connection and Immediacy more than ever. But public health and the well-being of our participants, staff, and neighbors in Nevada are our highest priorities.”

It will be interesting to see what a virtual Burning Man looks like. We certainly hope they can pull it off!
