Given the recent mysterious deaths of tourists in the Dominican Republic, two airlines are offering free flight changes on select itineraries.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that 11 American tourists have died of questionable causes while traveling in the Dominican Republic in 2019 so far – and the year isn't even half over yet. 

Because the deaths are still being investigated (the FBI has gotten involved), two airlines are offering their customers the option of changing their travel plans without paying a fee. Delta and JetBlue both recently announced the news earlier this week.

Delta Air Lines

For customers with tickets to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic between now and August 15, 2019, two changes can be made for free. You can move to a different flight, with a different destination or you can cancel your flight and apply its value to a future flight. If you choose the second option, you have to use the flight credit by November 20, 2019.

JetBlue

Though the airline's website is not updated to reflect it yet, JetBlue told ABC News that they would be issuing similar fee waivers.

"To support our customers, we are currently waiving change fees when rebooking flights to or from the Dominican Republic. For customers who wish to cancel their flights, we are waiving the cancellation fee and issuing a credit for future JetBlue travel."  – JetBlue spokesperson to ABC News

JetBlue customers with flights to the Dominican Republic can call Customer Service at (800) 538-2583 to discuss their flight changes with a company representative.
