You may have seen the No Kings Collective colorful, large-scale murals all over the Washington, D.C., area. And now you’ll be able to experience their collaboration with the Hirshhorn Museum as they bring back the decade of the 1980s in a fresh new way.
The $19.89 event at the Hirshhorn will highlight the ongoing 1980s-themed exhibit with music, food, and fun. Here are the details you need to know. DETAILS: No Kings Collective is an art collective that sticks to its motto of embracing the hustle to this day. Since 2009 they’ve embodied “the creative energy, versatility, and community of Washington D.C."
"This presentation and event will in many ways be paying homage to the decade of the '80s, where artists would create a community or 'entrepreneural collectives'"as an innovative way of sharing and selling their art. The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is part of the Smithsonian Institution and is located near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It's known as being at the forefront of new forms of art and creative expression. Its focus is on modern and contemporary art, particularly focusing on the latter half of the 20th century, and into the 21st century. The museum has hosted such popular exhibits as the Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors, Yoko Ono: Four Works for Washington and the World, and Suspended Animation. Your ticket to the event will get you access into the Hirshhorn Museum at a time when there are no tourists, so you’ll be able to properly enjoy the exhibit after-hours. You’ll also be able to enjoy beverages and food from participating local restaurants in D.C. Several DJs will play tunes to keep you pumped and in the mood.
The exhibit itself provides a history of how art trends in the '80s have shaped artistic leanings today. According to the organizers,
“Razor-sharp, witty, satirical and deeply subversive, these nearly 150 works examine the origins and rise of a new generation of artists in 1980s New York who blurred the lines between art, entertainment and commerce, a shift that continues to define contemporary art today.”The exhibit will be displaying many forms of art, from print to sculpture to photography to pop-ups, as well as the creative uses of many otherwise everyday objects.
