Cleaning for a Reason is a charitable organization that pairs cleaning crews with cancer patients all over the country.
Patients undergoing cancer treatment endure all sorts of physical challenges and setbacks. One nonprofit organization, Cleaning for a Reason, seeks to help them in a simple way: providing free house cleaning services for women who are cancer patients. To date, these patients have received services worth over $11,700,000.
How It Works
In order to be eligible to receive free house cleaning services, you must be a woman over 19 and currently undergoing some sort of cancer treatment. Patients can check and see if there are participating cleaning services in their area by going to the provider locator page on the Cleaning for a Reason website. If you do have providers in your region, you can then fill out the basic application online.
Someone from the organization will then follow up with you to get additional information, including documentation of your cancer treatment from your physician. If you are matched with a local service provider, you are then given two free monthly house cleanings. Limitations may apply if your local service is overbooked.
How to Help
Cleaning companies can register online to partner with Cleaning for a Reason. Donations to the organization help maintain these partnerships across the U.S. and Canada. Not only would you be providing services for people who really need them; you would also be growing your business through the additional exposure you get from appearing on the organization's website.
Individuals can support the organization's efforts by making donations online. Your monetary gift is tax-deductible and goes directly to help support the cleaning services provided.
About the Organization
Cleaning for a Reason was established n 2006 when founder and President Debbie Sardone was running her own cleaning service in Texas. She had an interaction with a potential client end abruptly when the caller admitted she couldn't afford house cleaning because of her cancer treatments, before promptly hanging up. That simple event got Debbie thinking and began her efforts to provide free services to women in similar circumstances. In 2005, at a convention for other maid service providers, she proposed the idea to other business owners, and the idea for Cleaning for a Reason was born.
To date, Cleaning for a Reason has signed up over 1,200 house cleaning service partners across the U.S. and Canada. Combined, they have helped over 30,000 women, and that number is rising every day.
