Fans continue to shout for another 25 years, "Let's go, Avs!"

The Colorado Avalance ended its 2020 season in third standings (league) and second standings (division and conference), behind the St. Louis Blues. Since the franchise's move to Colorado 25 years ago, the team has consistently been a top contender in the National Hockey League (NHL).

After two Stanley Cups (1996 and 2001) and a list of other achievements, the Colorado Avalanche is thrilled to celebrate 25 years of professional hockey.

"The 25th anniversary celebration will recognize the rich history of the Avalanche franchise and look forward to the bright future of the club by paying tribute to its Quebec Nordiques roots, celebrating two-and-a-half decades of community involvement, thanking the Avalanche's faithful fans, remembering players of both past and present, championing the growth of hockey in the region and looking toward the next 25 seasons," writes the NHL.

Colorado Avalance shared a video on their Facebook page commemorating 25 incredible years as a franchise, as a team, and as a force to be reckoned with in the NHL.

Celebrating the last 25 years is already underway. The Colorado Avalanche will have redesigned reverse retro jerseys for the 2021 season complete with a 25th-anniversary patch. The team's equipment will also better match the primary colors of the jerseys. Updated fan gear will be available through Altitude Authentics.

"The Avalanche's reverse retro jersey is unique in that it represents our club's rich history and bright future, utilizing the Nordiques' iconic marks and remixed in the Avalanche's beloved burgundy and blue," said Declan Bolger, Senior Vice President of Marketing for the Colorado Avalanche and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. "We believe the sweater pays tribute to the franchise's time in Quebec City, the first 25 seasons in Colorado, and will be popular for not only Avalanche and Nordiques fans, but for all fans of the game."

Team History

The Colorado Avalanche began in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques. After a couple of decades of inconsistent results, the franchise was relocated to Colorado.

The team arrived in Denver, Colorado, in July 1995. Just six weeks later, the team was publicly introduced as the Colorado Avalanche in August 1995. On October 6, 1995, the Avs played their inaugural game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Since that time, the Colorado Avalanche has won two Stanley Cups (1996, 2001).  The organization won nine straight division championships (1995-2003), a league record. The Avs also hold the record for the longest recorded sellout streak in NHL history, of 487 consecutive home games.

"In addition to its two Stanley Cup titles, the Avalanche also won two Presidents' Trophies (1997, 2001) and made six appearances in the Western Conference Final in its first seven seasons from 1996 to 2002."

Fans across Colorado are cheering on the Avs to claim yet another Stanley Cup in 2021. "Let's go, Avs!"
