Snow Hill is a small, calm town nestled in the Eastern Shore. To people passing through, it may appear that Snow Hill doesn't have all that much going on. The town has a public library, some schools, some food shops, a few parks, and plenty of houses and churches. But there just isn't the bright "bustling-ness" of Ocean City or Salisbury that some people are drawn to.

Furnace Town Living Heritage Village

The Furnace Town Living Heritage Village on the outskirts of Snow Hill includes an old, historic iron furnace and the town that was built around it (which you may have already guessed from its name)! According to
the website, the furnace has been around since the 1800s and was the center of a town funded by the Maryland Iron Company that thrived on the iron business until they went bankrupt. Afterwards, all the residents left, and by the early 1900s, all that was left of the town was the furnace and some building foundations.
However, that changed when the restoration of the town began. Visitors can go on tours of the restored town, learn about the history of the place, watch as artisans dressed in 17th-century costumes perform the professions that were in the town, or attend special events throughout the year! Talk about a blast to the past -- it's amazing to see history right in front of your eyes!
Julia A. Purnell Museum

The Julia A. Purnell Museum is situated within the town of Snow Hill and has been around since the 1940s. The museum started as a tribute to the needle art of its namesake. But, over time, the museum began to expand beyond Julia A. Purnell's work, collecting old toys, tools, machines, books, clothing, and more.
Now, the museum has amassed quite the array of artifacts, so they rotate them in unique exhibits! Visitors can see objects that focus on the Native American tribe that was in the area, or they can view items that explore the Victorian era. You can always see something new and take some interesting facts with you when you go!
Mount Zion One Room School

The Mount Zion One Room School is actually a part of the Furnace Town Living Heritage Village (featured above!).
This website states that the school was built in 1869 and was in use until 1931. Take the time to browse the donated 19th-century artifacts that make you feel like a class is about to start! Don't forget to stop and inhale the old book smell if you visit!
