Closures affect DMV offices and bars and restaurants across the city.

New COVID-19 closures have been announced that will greatly affect people in Denver. Mayor Michael Hancock has ordered that all DMV locations will be closed in the city and public gatherings of over 50 people have been banned in Denver. These new measures follow guidelines set out by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) over the weekend.

Mayor Hancock has also ordered all restaurants and bars in the city to close to dine-in services. However, drive-through services, delivery, and carry out will still be allowed to continue. No on-site seating in bars or restaurants will be allowed until further notice.

These new closures will start tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, and will last approximately 8 weeks, until May 11. The mayor also announced that police will be pulled from things like eviction services to focus on more important calls.

These restrictions are effective immediately, and all gatherings of 50 people or more will be canceled or postponed.

Gyms and theaters are not under the closure order at this time.

Mayor Hancock expressed that he is aware this will greatly affect the lives of people in the city, but stresses that the public health of the people of Denver is the top priority and that this is what needs to be done to flatten the spread of the coronavirus.
