The mystery has finally been revealed.

In an effort to lift people's spirits, DoubleTree by Hilton, the hotel chain famous for welcoming their guests with fresh cookies, has officially released their chocolate chip cookie recipe.

That's right—the elusive recipe, which has spawned countless dupes on the internet, can now be recreated in home kitchens across the country. This is the first time DoubleTree has revealed any information about the coveted cookie, and it's a big treat (pun fully intended) for everyone, especially during these trying times.

“We know this is an anxious time for everyone,” said Shawn McAteer, the senior vice president and global head of DoubleTree by Hilton. “A warm chocolate chip cookie can’t solve everything, but it can bring a moment of comfort and happiness."

A typical welcome includes a hug or handshake, but at the DoubleTree by Hilton, they show it with freshly-baked cookies. Around 30 million of the tasty treats are devoured by visitors annually, and they've even been baked in space, which goes to show their popularity knows no earthly bounds.

McAteer also added, “We hope families enjoy the fun of baking together during their time at home, and we look forward to welcoming all our guests with a warm DoubleTree cookie when travel resumes.”

Like many cookie recipes, it calls for the usual suspects like butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract to deliver that classic buttery taste. But other ingredients, like freshly-squeezed lemon juice, have us absolutely intrigued. In any case, we'll be in the kitchen readying our mixing bowls. If you need to stay inside, why not make cookies?

  • With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.
  • Remove bowl from mixer and stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  • Portion dough with a scoop (about 3 tablespoons) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.
  • Preheat oven to 300°F. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
  • Remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for about 1 hour.

Cook’s note: You can freeze the unbaked cookies, and there’s no need to thaw. Preheat oven to 300°F and place frozen cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
