It can be done!

If you were to ask the average person what makes a car good in the snow they'll probably tell you that you need all-wheel-drive and plenty of ground clearance. And while that's not necessarily bad advice, they often fail to mention the most important factor – tires. I've preached it over and over, but with the right set of winter tires, you can drive most cars throughout the year. Even if that car has a monster-V8 up front and typically punishes the rear tires every time you squeeze the go-pedal (think a Dodge Charger R/T with the 5.7L Hemi V8). 

Okay, non-car people, by now you probably think I'm crazy. Low to the ground, high horsepower, rear-wheel-drive cars are the opposite of what you think would work well or what that cute salesperson at the Subaru dealer told you. But believe it or not, police departments across the country still use rear-wheel-drive cars year-round, and if they can still catch the bad guys, you can still make it to the liquor store to make your hot toddys. 

Plus, I'm also not the only one to think this way, which is why I took to YouTube and found this gem by BurnsysRT that proves the concept without forcing me to jump into my ski gear.

As you can see, the Charger has no problem getting around, and that's good news for those of us who love our rear-wheel-drive car but don't want to purchase or carry insurance on a different vehicle.
