Go fish! Licenses will not be required for the next three days.

Thanks to "Free Fishing Days," fishing licenses will not be required to go freshwater fishing in the state of Virginia this weekend, June 5–7.

This means that 176,000 acres of public lakes and 27,300 miles of streams are available to fishing, without the usual requirement of purchasing a fishing license. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) has even put together a helpful online resource for finding the best place to fish near you.

“Free fishing days are always an excellent opportunity to get out and try fishing for the first time, or to introduce new people to fishing,” said Ryan Brown, Executive Director of DGIF. “I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and all that Virginia’s outdoors have to offer.”

All other fishing regulations (like limits, length, and bait) will remain in effect, so be sure to review them before you go.

Fishing licenses usually cost $23 per year for Virginia residents.
