With restrictions lifted, this year's Independence Day is looking a little more "normal."

The Fourth of July is just around the corner and, unlike last year, it seems there will be plenty to do. Everyone is still encouraged to stay safe and virtual events are again an option. Regulations for the fireworks at the Washington D.C. Mall have been announced, but the parade has been canceled, again.

For the "top-shelf" experience, what better way to celebrate than on a cruise ship? The July 4th Cruise Fireworks Watch Party hosted by Mer Events features an open bar, snacks, and a spectacular view. Leaving from Georgetown Harbor at 7:30 p.m., tickets are available for groups of 6 at $900 or individual tickets at $199.

If you want to get started a little earlier, there are two Hip-Hop and R&B Boat Parties kicking off at 2:30 and 5 p.m., also leaving from the Georgetown waterfront. The two-and-a-half-hour boat ride will feature an open bar, '90s and '2000s Hip Hop and R&B with Deejay Casper, One Route Catering (for an additional cost), and two levels on which to party. Tickets are $60.

Mer Events is also hosting a Rooftop Party at the Homewood Suites Rooftop Lounge (50 M St. SE) from 7-11 p.m. Tickets start at $30 and include a drink ticket and "a huge lineup of DJs."

Who doesn't want a cookout on the fourth of July? Starting at 5:30 p.m., the DM(V) African American Adventures is hosting a great one at Bolling Green Park (Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling) right on the Potomac River for a great view of the fireworks. For $25 per person, tickets include N/A drinks and lots of food (Hickory smoked BBQ chicken, 100% beef hotdog OR Andouille half-smoke {chicken}, southern potato salad, coleslaw, BBQ baked beans {no meat}, potato chips, baked cookies, and cupcakes). There will also be music, karaoke, and plenty of options for group activities (cornhole, sand volleyball, giant Jenga and giant checkers, and more).

Want to get started even earlier? How about a good old-fashioned pub crawl in Dupont Circle? Mer Events (again) wants you to wear your red, white, and blue on Saturday, July 3 from 2-10 p.m. For $15, you get a bracelet allowing you access to drink specials at whichever spots you choose to go within Dupont Circle. It's an all-day party featuring food, drinks, and shopping!

The Fourth of July is this weekend—how are you celebrating? Let us know in the comments.
