The Academy Awards—better known as "the Oscars" because of the nickname for the golden statue that winners receive—take place this weekend. This makes it a very important time of year for Hollywood, and as we all know, Hollywood thrives on numbers. So let's count down some fun facts about the Oscars by the numbers, from 10 all the way to zero, with a few extra thrown in for spice.

10...million

$10 million is the average cost of an A-list actress's complete outfit for the event. If that seems excessive, think about how many eyes will be on her as she walks the red carpet. By the way, there are about 16,500 square feet of that red carpet, which costs $24,700 and takes 900 hours for 18 workers to install, according to Wallethub.

This is Martin Scorsese's ninth nomination for Best Director in his lifetime. He holds the record for most-nominated (and still living) director. The record for career nominations, however, goes to John Williams with 52.

8...hundred and forty-two

842 new members were added this year to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, the full name for the organization that produces this award. Of those, 50 percent were women and 29 percent were people of color. There are about 6,000 motion picture professionals in the Academy.

This is the seventh Oscar nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio, an actor long-regarded to have a “curse” by fans because he would be nominated for spectacular roles but not win. Leo finally did win in 2016 for The Revenant, so if he wins this year, it will be his second Oscar for Best Actor. Coincidentally, seven is also the number of times Glenn Close has been nominated (though she is not on the list this year), all without a win. The record for most nominations of an actor without a win goes to Peter O'Toole, with eight.

There were six additional rules added to the show this year to prevent a mishap like the one that happened for Best Picture with La La Land and Moonlight. In that instance, the celebrity presenters were given the wrong card and announced La La Land as the winner even though Moonlight actually won. Now the presenters and the stage manager both have to confirm that the card is correct, multiple individuals have to have the entire winners list memorized, and additional PricewaterhouseCoopers employees will be involved, including the chairman, Tim Ryan.

In the past 10 years, five of the awards for Best Picture have gone to the same film for both the Golden Globe and the Oscar. Those films were The Artist, Argo, 12 Years A Slave, Moonlight, and Green Book. This year, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood took the Golden Globe. Can it take home the Oscar, too?

$400 is the estimated value of each of the Oscar statuettes. They are 8.5 pounds of solid bronze with 24-karat gold plating and stand 13.5 inches high. The design of the statuette is of a knight holding a crusader's sword and standing on a film reel. According to the Academy's webpage on the statuette, it takes 3 months to manufacture 50 of the figures.

Three people have received nominations for both Acting and Original Song in the same film. This year, Cynthia Erivo received both nominations for Harriet. The other two individuals were Mary J. Blige for Mudbound in 2018 and Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born in 2019.

270 is the estimated attendance at the very first Academy Awards Banquet in 1929. That year, the ceremony took about 15 minutes and the tickets to the after-party cost $5. Today, the awards ceremony lasts about 200 minutes, with the longest one running 263 minutes. And that after-party? Well, today there are quite a few, but the most expensive is the Vanity Fair After Party, which will cost a couple $105,000.

Parasite is the first South Korean film to be nominated for Best Picture. If it wins, it could make double history as the first film to win for both a Best Foreign-Language Film and Best Picture Oscar.

This year, there are no women nominated for Best Director. This is the second year in a row that there hasn't been a single woman in this category.
