The Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site and Shawn Main Streets are working together to bring you the Shaw Neighborhood Walking Tour. Carter G. Woodson was an African American historian who lived in the neighborhood in the mid 20th century and fought for civil rights. His Shaw home was the site of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Now the house is part of the National Park Service and honors both his memory and African American history in Washington, D.C. You’ll learn all about it on the tour.

Shaw Main Streets is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “preserve and restore the diverse, historic environment of Shaw's 7th and 9th Street commercial corridors, offering residents and visitors a better place to live, work, shop, play, and pray.” Alexander Padro, the executive director of the organization, will lead the tour on Saturday.
