With a wide variety of flavors and styles, there's a lot to choose from this week.
The Black Owned Restaurant Association, LLC launched Hampton Roads Black Restaurant Week in 2019 to showcase local, black-owned businesses "to unite culture and flavor during Black History Month with (a) week-long culinary adventure." To carry on the tradition in 2021, a time when local businesses need help more than ever, 17 different eateries are featuring a slew of selections at a discounted price. The event ends Sunday, February 21.
Throughout the week, each participating restaurant is offering a $10 lunch and/or $20 two-three course dinner. Each special varies by location so be sure to check out the website of the restaurant you want to go to before you order. Many of the menus can be found on the HRBRW's Facebook page.
Also, the Black Owned Restaurant Association is offering a Bingo Card. Simply get your card printed out from their website and visit five of the participating restaurants throughout the week. Once your card is full, turn it in at your final stop to be entered into a drawing for their grand prize: a one night stay at Simply Panache Place, breakfast at Mango Mangeaux, tickets to the local African American museum, lunch at Wing Bistro Chicken and Waffles, and a $50 dinner gift certificate at one of the participating Hampton Roads Black Restaurant Week restaurants of your choice!
Now that the various "restaurant weeks" have wrapped up in the specific cities, HRBRW covers all the 757 so you can make multiple car rides this week (need an excuse to get out of the house?), or enjoy a second helping of discounts in your town. Any "restaurant week" has always been a time for eateries to spotlight their chefs, offer tantalizing deals to the public, and promote local business. The events are good opportunities to take advantage of discounts at your favorite hot spots, or to check out new places and ones you just haven't been to yet. This year, BRW features a healthy blend of new and well-established businesses to choose from.
