The 2016 tale resurrects creations from the sci-fi works of H.P. Lovecraft and blends the world of the supernatural with the terrifying backdrop of segregated cities in the Jim Crow era.

With executive producers like Misha Green, J.J. Abrams, and Jordan Peele, you know you're in for quite a ride. Each episode can almost stand on its own, but to do it justice, you should start at the very beginning. Get to know protagonist Atticus Freeman (played by Jonathan Majors) and his cohorts Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance).

Unless you've read the novel, you have no clue what to expect, so just open your mind and grab your popcorn. Lovecraft Country airs a new episode on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m. EST. Keep the kiddos away; it's absolutely splattered with gore, adult language, and nudity.
