Head to Burnside Farms to Experience the Summer of Sunflowers

Gather everyone up for a day trip to Nokesville to see the famous sunflower fields.

What better way to spend a summer day than to pick, photograph, and enjoy thousands of cheerful sunflowers? Burnside Farms has been hosting its annual festival for years, delighting visitors from near and far. For the 2021 season, online ticketing gives you the opportunity to reserve your spots ahead of time.

The cost of admission includes full use of the picnic area, jump pad, and various photo props located around the fields. Additional sunflowers cost $1.50 each and you can also pick colorful cosmos and zinnias for $0.50 per stem.

One of the best things about the summer festival is the opportunity to pick your own flowers straight from the fields. You'll be able to pick up clippers and baskets when you check in, then have your choice of blooms from what you see. If you plan on gathering enough for a large bouquet, you will want to pack a jug of water to keep your sunflowers hydrated for the drive home.

Know Before You Go

The sunflower fields are very large, and you'll have to walk a big through uneven grassy terrain to get to them. For people who require assistance with mobility, it may be challenging.
Well-behaved dogs are permitted at Burnside Farms, but they have to remain leashed for the duration of your visit.
There are benches where you can rest, but you should bring your own picnic blankets or camp chairs if you plan on tailgating. Pack your own food and enjoy a summer picnic!
Dress for the weather. There is very little overhead cover at the flower fields, so if rain is in the forecast, plan accordingly and pack an umbrella and waterproof shoes.
Picked flowers are priced by the stem. Do not let your children pick and discard flowers on the ground; this is one of the reasons why the spring festival closed early this year.
Not all sunflowers are sky-high. To have continuous blooms throughout the summer, Burnside Farms has many different varieties in the ground on any given week. Some are only waist-high, while others are taller and tower over you.
