Only one southbound lane will be open for two miles near Monument.

CDOT has officially CANCELED the 16-hour lane closure for this weekend.

Saturday night might be a tough one for commuters going south from Denver this weekend. From 7 p.m. to 11 a.m., crews will be closing one lane to repair drainage for a two-mile stretch from the exit of Colorado 105 to County Line Road near Monument.  

If you are heading down the southern corridor of I-25, this might affect you. Especially those coming home from Saturday's 6:10 p.m. Rockies game—the drive might test your patience. The Colorado Department of Transportation says that it tries to keep a majority of its major closures and construction to the evening hours in order to keep two lanes open during peak drive times. 

"The lane closure will allow crews to safely and efficiently install drainage pipes in the area. CDOT encourages drivers to stay the course of I-25 and avoid local detours. Expect delays and plan ahead before you hit the road," says Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). 

One lane will remain open. However, extensive delays are anticipated and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and add extra time if traveling south of Larkspur. 

This closure is part of CDOT's 'Gap' project to widen I-25 from two to three lanes from Castle Rock to Monument. The lane added each way will be a toll lane, which has been received with mixed feelings. This summer's commute has been less than enjoyable for drivers going both ways between the Springs and Denver, with long delays, accidents, lane closures, and much more becoming the norm for that stretch.
