The former First Lady will read her favorite kids' books during the weekly series.
Need to entertain antsy kids staying indoors? Michelle Obama is here to help. She's teaming up with PBS Kids and Penguin Random House to bring everyone a virtual storytime experience!
Beginning April 20, the former First Lady will be hosting the storytime series "Mondays with Michelle Obama" where she'll read some of her favorite children's books. The first book on the docket is The Gruffalo, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Schleffer. Other picks include Miss Maple's Seeds by Eliza Wheeler and Eric Carle's beloved classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud. And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children—and then later, as First Lady, with kids everywhere," Obama said in a public statement.

As well as being a book lover since childhood, Mrs. Obama herself is also a bestselling author. Her memoir Becoming broke records for book sales upon its release in 2018 and produced a sold-out tour moderated by celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Oprah.
She hopes the videos provide a little solace for kids and their families during this tough time.
"At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break).”

The series will live-stream on PBS Kids Facebook page and Youtube, as well as Penguin Random House's Facebook page at 12 p.m. ET, running weekly through May 11. They will also be available to watch after the live-stream. You can find out more about it here.
