José Andrés Bringing Concept Restaurant to Hill Top House Hotel

Andrés is partnering with SWaN Hill Top to revive Hill Top House Hotel.

Legendary chef and humanitarian José Andrés has announced a partnership for his company to develop a new restaurant concept at a historic West Virginia landmark. Built in 1888, the Hill Top House Hotel survived two fires and several modernization projects before it was finally shuttered in 2008.

Now the hotel's owner, Leesburg-based SWaN Hill Top and Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup, will finally begin the process of reimagining the Harpers Ferry hotel.

The new Hill Top House Hotel will be developed with hotel company Interstate Hotels and Resorts and is scheduled to be completed by 2022. The goal is to preserve the charm of the old hotel while incorporating upscale dining, meeting spaces, and room accommodations. The centerpiece of the project will be a restaurant showcasing views of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, featuring a menu by chef José Andrés.

“José Andrés is not only an incredible chef, but also a two-time James Beard Foundation Award winner, a world leader, and a great humanitarian determined to feed the hungry, particularly those who have suffered in natural disasters. We are more than honored to have him oversee our culinary offerings at the Hill Top House Hotel,” said Karen Schaufeld, CEO of SWaN Hill Top.

Harpers Ferry is known as the most “painted town” in America because of its colorful and beautiful scenery. Hill Top House Hotel will structure wellness programs and historical excursions centered around the area’s historic parks and landmarks. The hotel will also have a world-class spa and hopes to cater to groups with new meeting and catering spaces.

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, is located about an hour outside of Washington, D.C., at the juncture of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The area has a rich historical background and is home to the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
