Vermont isn't the only state with delectable maple syrup. Maryland's trees also run sweet with nature's treat.

UPDATE: This event is canceled. Visit the festival's website for more information.

As the weather starts to warm and the flowers start to bud, it's time to head outside! Maryland's very own Cunningham Falls State Park is welcoming spring with its arms wide open with the 50th annual Maple Syrup Festival.

Situated near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border, this state park showcases stunning cascading waterfalls, woodland trails, fishing, and a variety of other opportunities. However, on the weekends of March 14–15 and 21–22, the state park only cares about one thing: maple syrup.

Cunningham Falls hosts a variety of events each day over these two weekends to perfectly celebrate all things maple syrup. Admission is a suggested donation of $3.

(Pro tip: Keep in mind that the event is cash only, so be sure to come prepared.)

Start the day at 9:30 a.m. with a pancake and sausage breakfast, topped off with rich, delicious maple syrup. From there, a variety of activities take over the easily accessible areas of the park. There are sugar demonstrations where visitors can learn about the process of making finished syrup from the raw sap, as well as games, crafts, and other activities designed just for kids. Bluegrass music, hayrides, and even an antique tractor display will add to the festivities as the event celebrates its 50th year.

Finish the day by shopping for some local maple syrup and other maple syrup products. The festivities will end each day at 2 p.m.

If there's a little bit of a sugar buzz hitting you and your friends and family, then hit the trails. Cunningham Falls is home to a stunning 78-foot waterfall. This crown jewel is on a quick hiking trail that guides you through some of northern Maryland's most stunning landscapes. Who knows? You just might find yourself returning for the second weekend of the festival!
