"Good Samaritan" Jonathan Bauer will fly on an F-16 plane this Friday at 10:30 a.m.

Sometimes the good guys really do win, and for a local Ocean City man, it has resulted in an unbelievable opportunity. Jonathan Bauer, the anonymous "Good Samaritan" who saved a toddler from drowning last month, will get to ride on a Thunderbird this week during the 14th Annual OC Air Show.

As part of their "Hometown Hero" program recognizing the contributions of local citizens, he'll join Thunderbird #8 Major Jason Markzon to experience an epic 45-minute flight through the skies.

“This is such an honor to be chosen by the Thunderbirds as their ‘Hometown Hero’,” Bauer said in a public statement. “I am incredibly excited to be given this opportunity.”

Bauer, who works at Atlantic General Hospital as the vice president of information systems, jumped into Assawoman Bay on May 2 after a 2-year-old girl was thrown into the water. The child was ejected out of a vehicle involved in a car accident that occurred on Route 90 that afternoon, leaving the truck suspended by the bridge's edge. Though initial reports referred to him anonymously due to preference, he made national news as an exemplary model of bravery.

In addition to the U.S. Air Force, his heroic actions have garnered a governor's citation from Governor Larry Hogan, as well as honorary membership in the Ocean City Fire Department alongside his wife and daughter.

Should you be in Ocean City this week, Bauer will board an F-16 plane on Friday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. The plane will depart the Wallops Flight Facility in Wallops Island, Virginia, and consist of "the thrill of hitting up to seven G’s, along with the accompanying twists, spins and turns of the best roller coaster ride imaginable." An unforgettable experience for everyone involved, we're sure! And thankfully a safe one. You can find out more about the event here.

Let us know if you'll be attending the OC Air Showdown in the comments.
