Fairfax County Police have enlisted the public's help in finding a man who is wanted for "malicious wounding," but they have no idea what he looks like.
The malicious wounding took place at 7:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 27, near the Vienna Metro Station. A female victim reports that she was grabbed from behind, assaulted, and stabbed by an unknown male assailant. She was transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police released this notice a week later asking for the community's help finding the 5' 7" man with "light to medium brown complexion." Yes, they included a generic shadowy figure on the flyer, which is typical for cases like this. However, the instructions ask for members of the community to "call Police Detectives if ... you have seen this individual."
The only thing that police know about this man is that he is of below average height with low-to-medium skin color, and he was wearing a black hoodie over his head. Not a whole lot to go on ...
Obviously, the police are right to warn and seek help from the public on this malicious wounding. But their notice is clearly pre-written, otherwise they wouldn't be asking residents if they had seen a placeholder silhouette in their neighborhood.
