Check your freezers: Ground beef is the latest to catch the recall bug -- for "extraneous materials."

Washington Beef LLC has voluntarily issued a nationwide recall for their ground beef because "extraneous materials," such as hard plastics and metal, were found in the product. The recall was officially issued on Saturday, March 2.

According to a report, approximately 30,260 pounds of ground beef was affected. The tainted products were produced on December 27, 2018, and feature a use or freeze by date of Jan 20, 2019. They hold an establishment number of 235.

    • product number 98506

The recall is listed on the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service website as a high-risk situation. 

According to the USDA website, “FSIS is concerned that some products may be frozen in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
