In the last few years, quite a few new restaurants have popped up in College Park, but Kapnos Taverna is, perhaps, the best of them all.

The next time you're in College Park you should check out Kapnos Taverna in the University of Maryland’s new hotel, across the street from the main campus. Not only does it provide a nice setting, but it's home to some of the best food in town. I recently dined there, and was more than pleased with each item of my three-course meal. Kapnos Taverna offers an all-you-can-eat brunch on the weekends, but I decided to try items in the “Washington Post Restaurant Week” selection. For my appetizer, I had the Hummus dip with pita flatbread, which was freshly baked. Next, for the main course, I went with the spit-roasted lamb. It was prepared and flavored with tabbouleh, cucumber and sumac; the lamb shreds were really tender which were complemented by the mild, slightly creamy vegetable bed base. I opted for the kapnos bar, a Greek yogurt-based mousse and chocolate custard combination with salted caramel, for dessert; it's one of those desserts you wish you could have 10 of everyday. Kapnos' weekend brunch has the best value and is the best time to visit. For $35, you can choose from a selection that includes items like salmon bagels, coffee waffles, spiced potato fries, baklava French Toast, spit roasted lamb, and so much more. Plus, who doesn't enjoy 25-cent mimosas? The regular menu also has some unique selections that are fairly priced, too. Kapnos Taverna is located on 7777 Baltimore Avenue.
