Richmond's recent beer industry boom has made way for brewery tours of all sorts. However, have you tried out a brewery tour and found it to be lacking something essential? We have the missing ingredient! Now you can enjoy some laughs with your beer with Richmond's new mobile comedy club. The Hop On, Stand Up trolley tour takes entertainment to the next level, combining visits to Richmond's best breweries with the city's funniest stand-up comics, who will keep you laughing while in transit from one brewery to the next.
Presented by RVA on Wheels, which also provides historic trolley and Segway tours of the city, the Hop On, Stand Up trolley has had a number of successful nights since starting in February. Two RVA on Wheels employees, cofounders Jonathan Nelson and Grace Manno, who are both active in the Richmond comedy scene, decided that a beer and comedy combo was exactly what Richmond city tourism was missing.
Each event features three comedians (which vary with each tour), as well as three brewery stops. The cost of admission includes not only the transportation and entertainment, but also a beer tasting or flight at each brewery. The tour begins at Champion Brewery on Grace Street, but other stops have included Twisted Ales, Triple Crossing, Castleburg Brewery, and Garden Grove. Tickets are $67 per person, or $100 per couple. This is a perfect activity not only for couples, but also for when your out-of-town friend comes to visit for the weekend. What better way to show someone the city than with local beer and comedy?
