Visitors won't be seeing that pesky Ocean City cigarette butt litter anymore.

If you've ever been to Ocean City, Maryland, you know that the city offers a ridiculous amount of beautiful scenery! But you also know that there's a darker side to Ocean City where beautiful places find themselves nearly drowning in trash. However, now we can kiss some of the trash goodbye because OC has finally reached a solution to help get rid of cigarette butts. 

According to The Dispatch, the Coastal Resources Legislative Committee -- also known as the Green Team -- and Councilman DeLuca worked together to secure a grant that would be used to install receptacles around Ocean City to collect cigarette butts. So, Wayne Pryor, the Grants Coordinator, filled out a grant application from the health department, which was recently approved.

This $2,000 grant will be used to place receptacles in the areas west of the Boardwalk where cigarette butts are often found at the ends of streets. Receptacles are already present on the beach, but now they'll extend to the Boardwalk areas as well. In the coming weeks, the Public Works director will be meeting with staff to settle on the specific locations.

And this is hardly the end of the battle against cigarette butt litter in Ocean City. The Development and Marketing Director for the Maryland Coastal Bays Program is also working on another initiative to reduce this kind of litter around the seaside city. Her plan involves giving free receptacles to resort businesses and then recycling the cigarette butts by sending them to TerraCycle, who'll pay the shipping costs.
