Both resorts won't have walk-up window sales, and limited lift tickets are only available in advance.

On September 14, Alterra Mountain Company CEO Rusty Gregory announced operating plans for its 15 ski areas. The announcement includes plans for Steamboat and Winter Park Resorts. In an effort to comply with local, county, and state regulations, both resorts will prioritize season pass holders and limit the number of daily lift tickets available for advance purchase. The plan also includes eliminating walk-up window sales as well as undated lift ticket products. 

"The health and well-being of Alterra Mountain Company guests, employees, and local communities has and will always be our company’s highest priority," Gregory said in the announcement. "The effectiveness of these plans will rely on your cooperation with our enforcement of face coverings, social distancing and crowd management on and off the mountain."

Local season passes are available for both Steamboat and Winter Park. Alterra Mountain Company also uses the Ikon Pass. The pass gives holders access to more than 40 destinations, including Steamboat and Winter Park, among other Colorado ski areas. 

"Like you, I’m excited to get back to winter and the skiing and riding to come," Gregory said. "These unprecedented times will continue to challenge us and will require tolerance and effort by all of us to help keep each other healthy and our destinations open for your enjoyment."

Steamboat and Winter Park join several Colorado ski areas announcing plans to limit guest numbers and enforce COVID-19 safety measures. Wolf Creek plans to cap skiers and boarders to 5,000 each day. Copper Mountain is adding a parking reservation system and delaying its opening date. Vail Resorts and Loveland Ski Area were among the first to announce COVID-19 guidelines.
