Our son, like most toddlers, loves to imitate adults. When he sees me cleaning or my husband cooking, he wants to do the same. He already owns a toy kitchen and a toy cleaning set, but I realized a toy toolset would be perfect. I'm already pretty obsessed with Green Toys, so when I realized they made a toolset for kids ages 2 and up, I knew it would make a great Christmas gift.
Green Toys are made in the USA and are made from 100 percent recycled milk jugs. Their adorable blue toolset with yellow and green tools and grey screws was easily found on Amazon, as well as Target. It's currently listed at $27.75 on Amazon, but I scored mine for only $9.99! Since Amazon prices tend to fluctuate dramatically, I would definitely keep your eyes peeled for a deal.
I personally love that this toolset isn't wooden. While I'm generally a huge fan of Melissa and Doug products, their Take-Along Tool Set had me a little worried. My son is pretty strong, and since I wasn't sure where he'd be hammering, I didn't want any "accidental" holes in our walls.

Green Toys' product description on Amazon describes the "eco-cool tool kit" as having 15 pieces which include: "a toolbox, Phillips screwdriver, flat screwdriver, hammer, saw, wrench, pliers, 2 two-hole connectors, 2 nails, 2 bolts, and 2 nuts." Each piece is dishwasher safe and free from BPA, phthalates, PVC, or external paints or coatings.
Every time my dad comes to visit, we usually put him to work around the house, and our son is enthralled with whatever he's working on. Once my son received this toy toolset he got to work on our front door, imitating what he saw my dad do a few months ago.
The tools are a perfect size for his little hands, and they even have the names engraved on the sides, so when he starts to read, he'll be able to identify them easily.

If your little one prefers everything to be pink and purple, Green Toys makes the same set in a pink version as well. Currently, it's listed at $21.53 on Amazon.
