Rev your engines! It's time to zoom into the Christmas season!

I have fond memories of growing up with an Advent calendar during the month of December. Most of the time, my brother and I would open a tiny door to a little piece of chocolate. It was a neat (and tasty) way to count down the days until Christmas. Apparently, Advent calendars have come a long way since I was a kid.

This year, my mom purchased my vehicle-obsessed toddler a Hot Wheels Advent Calendar that did not disappoint. While I'm sure he would have been thrilled with a piece of candy every day, a new car or accessory is infinitely better in his mind.

Only $19.99 on Amazon, the boxed calendar features eight cars and 16 accessories, for a total of 24 pieces. The cars are definitely why he sits patiently in my lap each morning waiting for me to open the designated day's window. He's only 2, so the perforated "windows" are pretty hard to open on his own.

The box says ages 3 and up, but really any Hot Wheels fan will love this calendar. You can set up the box so there's a foldout playmat. It looks like a race track, complete with spots for the top three finishers.

I'll admit some of the accessories are a little lackluster. One day we received a single traffic cone, and another day yielded a small pile of tires. Other days the accessories have proved to be a bit more interactive. There's a plow you can attach to the front of a car, as well as a sled that a car can sit on top of.

It's neat to be surprised each day, and when it is a car, the excitement my son exudes can turn the Grinchiest of hearts. Last year he was a little young for a lot of traditions, but it's neat to see him embrace the holiday season this year.

If you plan ahead and purchase this calendar now, you'll have it all ready to go during the Christmas season next year!
