Get ready for some major delays along one of the area's craziest intersections. Route 50 at Seven Corners in Bailey's Crossroads will be re-routed to allow for major road and bridge work.

Do your weekend plans take you to Arlington, Falls Church, or Eden Center? Then you need to know what the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has in store for Seven Corners!.

Route 50, or Arlington Boulevard, is about to get a drastic overhaul this weekend with a brand-new Wilson Boulevard bridge. Watch for detours in the area and the inevitable traffic delays.

WHEN: 10 p.m., Friday, August 2, to 5 a.m., Monday, August 5
WHERE: Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) at Seven Corners in Bailey's Crossroads

All mainline Route 50 traffic will be detoured to the adjacent service roads both eastbound and westbound. Part of Wilson Boulevard traffic will also be detoured onto service roads and Patrick Henry Drive. Bottom line: steer clear of Seven Corners if you can. Any time you go from four lanes to service roads, you're in for some major delays.

The Wilson Boulevard bridge over Route 50 is being demolished and replaced. After this weekend, work will continue along Route 50 and Wilson Boulevard with single lane closures for the next several months.

Keep in Mind

  • Road construction will continue into the overnight hours to ensure completion by Monday morning.
  • Adhere to posted speed limits leading up to and through the work zones. Everyone's stuck in the same traffic!
  • Allow for extra time or find an alternate route if your commute takes you through Seven Corners on Monday morning, just to be on the safe side.
