Due to heavy snowfall, I-70 has shut down.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, I-70 has been shut down in both directions due to crashes. There's no estimate on reopening at this time. Heavy snow began falling on Wednesday morning in the high terrain, and with temperatures dropping steadily throughout the day, snow-covered roads have become a real issue to motorists.

The storm that is currently impacting Colorado is set to produce up to 30" of snow between now and Friday morning, meaning that there are going to be multiples days of rough travel weather across the state. Plan ahead for snow-packed and icy roads across the high terrain.

The National Weather Service in Boulder tweeted Wednesday afternoon that roads near Copper Mountain, Loveland Pass, and Berthoud Pass were beginning to become snow-covered. Meanwhile, areas near Conifer and Junction highway were seeing just wet roads, for now.

Vehicle chain laws and traction laws are in place throughout the state, as well. As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, Loveland Pass on US 6, Hoosier Pass on CO 9, near Battle Mountain on US 24, I-70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel, I-70 at Vail pass, CO 91, and US 285 at Kenosha pass all have vehicle traction or chain laws in place.
