This year’s theme is a nod to those who helped shape America.
The White House is all dressed up for the holidays. The White House released a video of First Lady Melania Trump walking through the beautifully decorated residence on December 2. This year, the First Lady has chosen a theme called the “The Spirit of America,” featuring the American Flag and its patriotic colors. While 2018 incorporated an abundance of red, including the hallway of red berry trees, 2019 is full of white and gold with touches of red, white and blue.
Each room of the White House is decorated to represent a different American theme. First Lady Melania Trump chose this year’s theme to celebrate the people who have made America unique.

“This Christmas season I want to honor those who have shaped our country and made it the place we are proud to call home, and I am excited to announce our White House holiday theme, ‘The Spirit of America,’” said First Lady Melania Trump. “When I travel the country, I am inspired by the hard-working people and families that I meet. No matter which state they call home, many Americans share a strong set of values and deep appreciation for the traditions and history of our great nation.”
The official White House Christmas Tree can be found in the Blue Room. The 18-foot tree is decorated with paper flowers representing the state flower of each state in the union. In the East Wing sits the Gold Star Family Tree, a reminder of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
This year, the hallway is filled with hundreds of white hanging snowflakes converging into a lush winter garden of trees adorned with white lights and elements of green and gold. The official 2019 ornament honoring President Eisenhower can be found in the library.
The famous gingerbread house is located in the State Dining Room. The tasty replica also features landmarks from across America including the Space Needle, Mount Rushmore, St. Louis Gateway Arch, Golden Gate Bridge, and Lady Liberty. It was crafted from 200 lbs. of dough, 35 lbs. of chocolate, and lined with 25 lbs. of royal icing.
