Virginia residents now have a way to see how many cases of COVID-19 have been reported in their own zip code!

The Virginia Department of Health just made a new searchable database public, and it is extremely easy to use. 

The interactive database can be found here. All you have to do is type in your zip code to see the number of cases and deaths attributed to COVID-19 in your area. You can also scan the state-wide map of the counties and click on areas you want to learn more about.

What you'll see is the total number of cases and the number of testing encounters for people who live in your zip code, displayed under the cumulative numbers for the state.

There are a few things to keep in mind when viewing this data:

• People are counted in the zip code in which they live, not the zip code where they were tested.
• Test subjects are only counted once per person, regardless of how many tests they take over a period of time. Some people, like healthcare providers and those who have been exposed to COVID-19, require multiple tests.
• People who live in other states may be tested in Virginia, but they will not be included in the state data.
• The Department of Health website statistics are kept current and are updated daily before 10 a.m.

At the time of publication, several counties, including Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, Chesterfield, and Henrico all reported over 500 cases.
