Though Washington, D.C., isn’t really known for its bloody mary (it’s more of a mimosa sort of town), we’ve scrounged up some of the best you can find around the city.

Because sometimes all you need is a really hearty, meaty, spicy bloody.

Logan Tavern

1423 P Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20005
If you’re from or have ever been to the Midwest, you know that they love their bloodys there. They especially love personalizing them. And there’s something about a bloody mary you created yourself that’s just more appetizing. While Logan Tavern won’t allow you to physically make your own, they’ve got the next best thing: designing your own. The bloody mary menu is divided into categories, and you’re allowed to pick from each one to create your perfect concoction. Start with the base -- the vodka (or tequila, if you prefer, for a bloody maria). You can choose from a wide selection of brands like Tito’s, Absolut Peppar, Skyy, and others. Then pick your spiciness level and any flavor you may want to add such as balsamic vinegar, Sriracha, horseradish, and the like. The third step is to dress it up with toppings. You can pick three off the menu, and favorites include cream cheese, jalapeno, and crispy potato strings. There’s also the option to add a little something on top, and who doesn’t love a strip of crispy bacon in their bloody? Logan Tavern also serves a mean brunch so you can soak up your bloody with some French toast and eggs benedict. City Tap House

1250 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, D.C., 20036 City Tap House in the Dupont Circle neighborhood is a newcomer in Washington, D.C., having only just opened this past October, but it’s already making a splash on the city’s restaurant scene. This is probably the only notable spot in the city where you can actually make your own bloody mary. The restaurant has set up a brunch bloody mary bar where you can take your glasses and physically create your own drink from the spread laid out for you. This will set you back $18, but for a bloody made to your absolute perfection, it may be worth it. You can view the brunch menu here, to get an idea what you’ll want to chow down on with your bloody. Del Campo

777 I Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20001 Some bloody marys are meant to stand out. And the one at Del Campo is definitely different from anything else you’ve tried. If you’ve ever thought it might be a good idea to put seafood into your bloody, Del Campo was thinking the same thing. You can get your bloody with squid ink, octopus, fish stock, and more. Note of warning: it will come out a blackened color, and this is due to the squid ink. If you’re bold and you’re willing to try anything once, this should be on your list. Del Campo also had a bottomless brunch buffet worth checking out every Saturday and Sunday. [caption id="attachment_6492" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]bloody mary Courtesy of eater.com[/caption]

The Source

575 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 20565 The Source by Wolfgang Puck has a more traditional take on a bloody mary, but the flavor is anything but boring. If you like spicy, they've got you covered with a Sichuan bloody, complete with chili salt on the rim. They’ll also include stuffed olives and a celery stick to top it off. And if spice scares you, don’t fret: they also have a milder version on the menu with old bay seasoning on the rim. This restaurant has been receiving rave reviews from all over Washington, D.C., so make sure you not only check out their brunch menu, but also dinner.
