With Ian Desmond out, the Rockies are putting their faith in Mark Reynolds and it's paying off! Reynolds has quickly become an integral part of the team's roster.

The signing of Mark Reynolds over the winter was not headline news and reasonably so, because it was a minor league deal with no guarantees. However, the first baseman has quickly made a name for himself and become an important part of the Rockies, easily stepping in for Ian Desmond after he broke his left hand during spring training. "Unfortunately, the Desmond thing put me in a good spot to play a lot," Reynolds said. "But when he comes back, we're going to be that much better ... I'm just trying to take advantage of the opportunities I have while I'm still in the lineup. I'm trying to make it hard for Bud (Black) to not put my name in there." As of April 17, 2017, Reynolds is hitting .306 with four home runs and 11 RBIs. "He's doing his thing. He's doing a great job. No doubt about it," said Rockies manager Bud Black. mark Reynolds A few months ago, Reynolds was getting minor league offers from big league teams, some wanting him to play in South Korea or Japan. However, he turned those down to stay with the Rockies for a second season. "At this point of my career, it's not about how much money I can make," said Reynolds. "It's more about me being comfortable and being in an environment where I feel like I can succeed and enjoy myself." His decision to stay with Rockies afforded not only himself but his family stability after a career that has seen him move around since 2004 when he played for Arizona.
The Rockies are on the hunt for their first NL West title and are trying to reach the postseason for the first time since 2009. With a four-game series win in San Francisco during the weekend of April 15, the Rockies are leading the division at 9-5. Only time will tell how far the Rockies will reach during the regular season.
