And you thought climbing those peaks was an accomplishment.

This is art to the extreme. High-flying aerial dance troupe BANDALOOP is ready to take on some of Colorado's purple mountain majesty! 

This August, as a part of the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA), the troupe will put on vertical dance performances on some of our state's iconic mountains. The vertical dancers don't just hang in the air: they believe in using the mountainside (as well as skyscrapers and more) as a sideways floor, integrating their performance with nature and elevating the art in more ways than one.

BANDALOOP is based in Oakland, Calif., uses climbing technology mixed with concert-stage dance choreography to perform its gravity-defying routines. A pioneer in vertical performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography, and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. Vertical dancing is the brainchild of Amelia Rudolph, who 25 years ago, reimagined dance as a performance not just limited to the ground but instead, open to virtually any space imaginable. 

"In bringing these worlds together we're able to dance on the mountains or on buildings in ways that activate those spaces in unusual and wonderful ways. It celebrates the human spirit and grace and beauty and courage. I'm not a daredevil. I'm a dancemaker," says Rudolph. 

The troupe has performed for millions of people in over 22 countries, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Asia, as well as on-screen in films and digital media. It also trains others to perform. 

So far, we know that the dates of the performances will be August 10-11, but no specific times or locations have been released. For more information, you can follow BANDALOOP's Colorado performances on the BIFA website.
