The game is against the 'Canes, and it’s in North Carolina. 

The Washington Capitals will be playing a preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes, and tickets are free. There is a catch for Capitals fans, however:  You will have to go to North Carolina. The game against the 'Canes will be taking place on Sunday, September 29, at PNC Arena in Raleigh in conjunction with the team’s special fan event called the Caniac Carnival. All seats will be general admission and can be claimed online beginning on September 4, 2019. The Capitals were eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs last season.

Each year the Hurricanes put on the "Caniac Carnival" and host a free game for fans. The event will celebrate its 20th year and will feature a festival with rides, interactive activities, and a vendor fair. It all begins all 10 a.m. culminating with puck drop at 1:30 p.m. Doors to the PNC Arena open at 11:30, and fans are encouraged to enter and stake out their seats. A “State of the Hurricanes” program hosted by John Forslund will be held ahead of the game at noon.

Tickets will be distributed online on September 4, and will be first-come, first-served. Hurricanes season ticket and ticket package holders will automatically receive tickets for the game. Parking is free, and there will be discounts available on food and drink in the arena. Fans can also come to the carnival without game tickets, so the arena will probably be crowded. 

The Washington Capitals will play three preseason games at home in September against the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and the Carolina Hurricanes. The season home opener is scheduled for October 5, 2019, at 7 p.m. against the Carolina Hurricanes.
