Saturday is Colorado Public Lands Day, and there are plenty of ways you can celebrate at Colorado's 41 state parks -- including pledging your dog as a member of the Eldo Bark Ranger Program.
Back in May 2016, Colorado became the first state in the country to have a state holiday that celebrates our public lands and how they are "central to our economy and quality of life." And now, every third Saturday in May is recognized as Colorado Public Lands Day. This year, Colorado Public Lands Day falls on Saturday, May 19, and we've collected all the ways you can celebrate, become one with nature, and cherish our beautiful state parks. Colorado is home to 41 state parks, and while there are plenty of activities and events celebrating our public lands, there's one that really gets our tails waggin': Eldorado Canyon State Park's Bark Ranger Program. The Bark Ranger Program is an opportunity for your dog to pledge as an "Eldo Bark Ranger," where your furry companion will receive a special dog tag. A pledge card (to be signed by owners) will be given that states dogs will maintain a comfortable recreational experience for others by following the rules of B.A.R.K. -- Bag your poop, Always wear a leash, Respect wildlife, and Know where you can go! While it's free (and adorable!), visitors are encouraged to make a $5 minimum donation to help support the Bark Ranger Program. An $8 vehicle fee is required to enter the park.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife has put together a list of all the events happening around the state in honor of Colorado Public Lands Day, which you can view here.
Some of the more notable ones include a morning hike at Chatfield State Park, a Clean Up/Green Up at the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, and planting flowers in Roxborough State Park's Visitor Center's garden, among others.
